Great book.

But one question. As read in your book and in others, the brain has hierachy, ascending and descinding neurons, association areas and so on.

But then again it's always been said that the brain is a massively parallel device.

How do these two statements go together?

That's a good point... within a particular level of the heirarchy, each column works independantly, making the brain massively parallel. But the heirarchy works in a linear fashon overall, meaning the brain isn't purely parallel processing, because higher areas have to wait for lower areas. Neat.
